(Less) - Abstract
- Urbanization with growing and denser cities in combination with climate change that is expected to produce more extreme weather requires a smart land use where several functions can be fulfilled on the same surface. An example of a multifunctional facility is structural soil that have a bearing capacity to handle loads, create favorable conditions for trees and handle stormwater with purification and delay.
In this study, interviews with municipal employees have been conducted to investigate the use of structural soil today and the division of responsibilities for them. 4 of the 5 interviewees have structural soils in their municipality. In this study, interviews with municipal employees have been conducted to investigate the use of structural soil today and the division of responsibilities for them. 4 of the 5 interviewees have structural soils in their municipality. They are often planted with the health of the trees in focus, but purification and delay are also seen as secondary functions. No possible delay in skeletal soil has been considered when designing stormwater networks.
A case study with hydraulic modeling in MIKE URBAN + has been made to investigate the hydraulic capacity of structural soils and how they can reduce the load on the stormwater network with respect to peak flows, reduced volume and delay. The inclusion of structural soils results in a small reduction in peak flow, flow volume and the hydraulic grade line during the 10- and 30-year rain events. The fact that the structural soils do not give a greater reduction is considered to be because the drainage from the structural soils is too small in comparison with the total volume of the pipe.
