Abstract (Swedish)
Theoretically Originated Measure Of The Cognitive Activation Theory Of Stress (TOMCATS) användes... (More)

Theoretically Originated Measure Of The Cognitive Activation Theory Of Stress (TOMCATS) användes för att mäta förväntningar och The WHO-5 Well-Being Index (WHO-5) användes för att mäta psykiskt välbefinnande.
(Less)
Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate how restaurant staff experienced stress and psychological well-being and to what extent positive expectancies affected these factors during the Corona crisis in April 2020. Furthermore, it was investigated whether there were gender or age-related differences regarding stress and well-being.
The survey was conducted as a quantitative cross-sectional study through a web-based questionnaire. The form included 29 questions split up in six background questions, ten questions about perceived stress, eight questions regarding expectancies and five about psychological well-being.
To measure perceived stress, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) was used, Theoretically Originated Measure of the... (More)

The survey was conducted as a quantitative cross-sectional study through a web-based questionnaire. The form included 29 questions split up in six background questions, ten questions about perceived stress, eight questions regarding expectancies and five about psychological well-being.
To measure perceived stress, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) was used, Theoretically Originated Measure of the Cognitive Activation Theory of Stress (TOMCATS) was used to measure expectancies and the WHO-5 Well-Being Index (WHO-5) was used to measure psychological well-being. The questionnaire was distributed through convenience sampling and 73 people, 27 women and 46 men, responded.
The result for perceived stress were above the mean of other studies. The result regarding psychological well-being were above the WHO threshold for depression, but clearly below the average for a population with no major depression.
Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between coping and perceived stress, as well as between coping and psychological well-being which means that higher positive expectancies had interrelationship with lower stress and higher well-being. The study also found a significant difference in stress and well-being between men and women.
The Corona pandemic seems to have affected restaurant staff as comparison showed higher stress and lower well-being. Furthermore, people with higher positive expectancies appear to have lower stress and higher well-being. However, non-random selection means that interpretations must be done with caution. (Less)
