Abstract
In today’s society fast fashion has taken over the consumers and prices on clothes are so low that the clothes have lost their value due to their disposability. People are consuming more than they need and also throwing away clothes that they no longer need but are still fully functional. In short, we need to change our consumer habits. This paper will be exploring the sharing economy focusing on renting clothes. The purpose of this thesis has been to find out how renting of clothes is developing in Sweden, who the user is today and since we are so used to own our own things, what will happen to us when we no longer own the clothing but rent them instead. Through a survey and through appropriate literature reading I have found out that the society in Sweden are receptive to sharing economy even though the phenomena is still in an early stage. The small group of people that are renting clothes today are the early adopters and millennials. We are today still very attached to our things so the best would be a combination between owning and renting. (Less)
