A qualitative research method was used in order to shed light on the workings of Swedish incubator networks and how residing Early and rapid internationalizing startups make use of them to overcome deficiencies of asset parsimony, newness, smallness and foreignness. Therefore, information from startups and incubator staff was acquired from three of the most important incubators in southern Sweden. Namely, Ideon Innovation, Minc and Smile. Twelve in-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted. Moreover, it was sought to have information on companies that have successfully graduated from incubators. Additionally, it was of relevance to prove the information provided by startups against business coaches and senior advisors from the incubators. Axial coding techniques for data analysis facilitated the investigation to find linkages between the responses of interviews. Empirical findings showed that startups utilize incubator networks for a variety of purposes, finance, technology construction, business and personal development as well as business coaching. As a whole, all managers interviewed of incubated and graduated startups benefited substantially from the incubator networks. (Less)
