Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

Abstract
In 2015, the UN countries adopted an agenda for sustainable development, it is today called the 2030 Agenda. The agenda includes 17 global goals and 169 targets that were created to achieve economic, social and ecological sustainability worldwide. These goals are based on the Millennium Development Goals, the purpose of which is to complete what was not achieved. The concept of sustainability can be defined in different ways and can thus be perceived differently. This has led to a lack of clarity about the concept, especially in real estate companies. The real estate companies' approach to achieving Agenda 2030 is very similar, with some exceptions for some companies.

The purpose of the study has been to investigate how different real estate companies in Sweden have adapted to the goals and how they work to achieve the goals by 2030. The study has been limited to goal 11, Sustainable cities and communities. More specifically, target 11.1, Safe and affordable housing and 11.3, Inclusive and sustainable urbanization have been selected for review. The possibilities and obstacles the real estate companies see in achieving the goals by 2030 have also been investigated. This has been investigated through a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews. To get a broader idea of how real estate companies work with the targets, both project managers and regional managers have been interviewed.

The results show that everyone in real estate companies lacks knowledge of Agenda 2030 and the concept of social sustainability. It is the definition itself that is difficult to put into words. What all real estate companies have experienced is that there have been significantly more demands on the work today. There is more preparatory work being done as well as more work both during the project planning but also during the production. Everyone agreed that more focus is being placed on building more sustainably. However, it is common for the sustainability aspect of social sustainability to be overlooked. Most real estate companies try to create a variation in a residential area so that the homes will fit as many people as possible in the community, also adapting the housing standard based on the residents' needs and conditions. Make housing available that young people can afford and try to be present for the residents by, for example, involving them in social activities. Appreciate security and safety in all projects and focus on what is called natural surveillance. The real estate companies do not consider it impossible to achieve the goals, but it will require both dedication, a positive mindset and endurance where the focus is on the results that will benefit the company in the long run.
