This paper examines how permaculture in Denmark can contribute to the green transition towards a sustainable state. Permaculture offer a practical design on how to live a sustainable life including a practical detailed design to farming. This paper examines how permaculture in Denmark can contribute to the green transition towards a sustainable state. Permaculture offer a practical design on how to live a sustainable life including a practical detailed design to farming. By analysing collected material through semi-structured interviews with the framework ”Capitalism and its Criticism” originated from the two sociologist Boltanski and Chiapello, it becomes clear that permaculture representing the civil society contributes in many different ways towards a sustainable state. One of many important elements towards that state is the social movement criticism against the capitalistic stat. Permaculture represents a movement where all four types of criticism: Conservative, social, artistic and ecological are included. The material of the interviews with permaculture informants is also used as a way to understand how permaculture can be understood through the lenses of political ecology. It shows that permaculture is an embodiment of the answers to many of the defined problems in Political Ecology theories. Permaculture contributes already to the green transition by doing regenerative farming. But in the paper it becomes clear that permaculture as representing the civic society contributes with its many different forms of criticism and the movement’s embodiment of political ecology so to say.
