Abstract
This paper studies the connection between socioeconomic status and access to green areas in Malmö. The research questions which have been formulated are:
To what extent does socioeconomic status affect access to green areas?
How does Malmö stad work with socioeconomic status?
How does Malmö stad work with access to green space?
To answer the research questions, two different aspects of theoretical concepts are used; green space planning, and socioeconomic status in planning. When it comes to analysing green space planning theories such as Florgårds (2005) ideas about how power affects the planning process, and Wolch et al. (2014) theories about how green space can change a city's urban layout are used. Theories such as Fainstein and... (More)

Theories such as Fainstein and Fainstein’s (2013) ideas about just planning, as well as Glaeser et al. (2008) research about how cities are structured are used to analyse socioeconomic status in planning.
A case study has been carried out through interviews, document analysis, and spatial analysis, which showed that to a certain extent socioeconomic status has an affect on the access to green space, and that areas with lower socioeconomic status seem to have less access to green space. Malmö stad are aware of their problems concerning both socioeconomic status and access to green space, and are actively working to lessen the disparities within the city. (Less)
