- Abstract
- This paper is a bachelor’s thesis, which aimed to study the procedure regarding the prolongation of the blue subway line from Stockholm City out to the municipality of Nacka. By conducting a content analysis of two official documents produced during the planning process of the subway, complemented with an interview with the current chairman of the municipality board of Nacka, the visions and strategies for the subway were established. Furthermore, a survey study was conducted with the residents of Nacka, to establish if the municipality and the residents share opinions regarding the subway, how it is supposed to be utilized, why it is being built and for whom.

Furthermore, a survey study was conducted with the residents of Nacka, to establish if the municipality and the residents share opinions regarding the subway, how it is supposed to be utilized, why it is being built and for whom.
Analyzed against two previous studies on urban structure and planning of railway, the results of the study showed how a majority of the participants of the survey could see themselves using the subway in the future, while some were concerned regarding how the subway will affect the rest of the public transport systems in Nacka. Furthermore, even though the municipality and the residents of Nacka shared some views regarding how and why the subway should be prolonged, it became clear how the standing point of the municipality was how to strategically plan for the future of the residents, while the residents themselves regarded how the subway would affect them specifically.
Finally, the study concluded how the municipality of Nacka should regard the different connecting forms of public transport highly, such as the bus systems, to be able to fulfill their prospects for the subway, as well as to favour the dissatisfied remaining minority of the survey participants.
