Abstract
Perceived feeling of insecurity in public space is a complex issue. Fear of violence and crime has been a central theme in politics and media since the 1980’s. Lots of local projects have been conducted in an aim to work with the issues, often in collaboration between the local police force, real estate companies and other local actors. A new structured and knowledge based working model has emerged during the last five years, called EST. It is therefore interesting to investigate how the model works in practice. Since EST focuses on collaboration and urban uncertainty, those themes are further investigated in this study. Since EST focuses on collaboration and urban uncertainty, those themes are further investigated in this study. To do so a qualitative case study has been conducted in Linköping, one of Sweden’s most segregated municipalities. The empirical method includes an analysis of internal documents and an interview study. The collected data was analysed and discussed by referring to scientific sociological theories. One of the main conclusions from the study is that the collaboration between different actors has expanded and intensified the work with preventing urban insecurity. However, in a long-term perspective the theoretical conclusion was that highlighting the issues might have a negative effect on the citizens perceived insecurities in public space. (Less)
