Abstract (Swedish)
Många upplever svårigheter inom utbildning, arbetsliv och socialt liv upp i vuxen ålder, men tidiga insatser verkar kunna bryta denna negativa spiral. Abstract
Children in the social services' out-of-home care, for example, those living in family homes, often have traumatic experiences and a high prevalence of mental illness. Many have difficulties in education, work and social life into adulthood, but early intervention can potentially break the negative spiral. However, there is a lack of evidence of potential effects of the interventions offered. The purpose of the current study, which is a pilot study in a Swedish context, was to evaluate a recently developed trauma-informed psychoeducational intervention for foster parents: Resource Parent Curriculum, RPC (in Sweden TMO-F). Using a quasi-experimental design, we investigated the effect of the education on foster parents' parenting efficacy,... (More)

Using a quasi-experimental design, we investigated the effect of the education on foster parents' parenting efficacy, tolerance for the child's behaviour and trauma-informed parenting, and on the child's perceived behaviour. Foster parents (N=44) were divided into an experimental group (n=24) and a control group (n=20) and answered questionnaires on three occasions - before, immediately after and two months after completed education. Data were analyzed in Jamovi with Mixed Model analysis. The results showed that the education had an effect on the foster parents' trauma-informed parenting and parenting efficacy, but that the effect diminished rapidly. Conclusions of the study are that a psychoeducational intervention can have positive effects on foster carers’ parenting attitudes, but that more is needed for the effects to be sustained over time, e.g. practical training.
