- The social work field, like several others, has been forced to readjust in adapting to the prevailing restrictions with Covid-19. - The social work field, like several others, has been forced to readjust in adapting to the prevailing restrictions with Covid-19. The assessment instrument Addiction Severity Index provides an overview of problems related to alcohol and drug use. This instrument has, considering the circumstances, been performed over the telephone instead of in person. The aim of this study was to examine social workers’ experience of conducting Addiction Severity Index over the phone and to understand in what way the altered conversation environment affects the interaction between social worker and client. The method used for this study was semi-structured individual interviews with six social workers, from three different municipalities in the region of Skåne. In analysing the results, we applied Goffman's dramaturgical theory as a tool to understand the social interaction in the changing environment. We have found that part of the interaction is limited due to the readjustment with body language as a significant component. Important findings include, the interaction of missing clues regarding the clients problems and emotions, but also tools helpful for the assessment. Furthermore the results have shown that the complex role of social workers is more difficult to maintain using the telephone set up. We have also found some alternative methods used in the telephone set up working with Addiction Severity Index. (Less)
