Abstract
Since its announcement in 2013, China’s Belt and Road Initiative raised much interest of the scientists and practitioners. Even though much research has been carried out on this project, few attempts have been made to examine the benefits of the project to five Central Asian countries. This study aims to explore the effect of the Belt and Road Initiative on the changes of the export volume of Central Asia to China. The panel dataset from 2000 to 2019 was constructed to apply it to the gravity model of trade. Methods of pooled OLS and random effects were applied. The key findings of the study are that the GDP per capita of the countries and the distance between the trading partners are positively related to the increase of exports. The BRI... (More)
