- Abstract
- The use of antidepressants to treat pediatric mental disorders is contentious as for instancethe FDA black box warning in 2004 has shown. Using cross-sectional data containing ret-rospective mental health diagnostics, I study outcomes of childhood and adolescence mentalhealth on labour supply and overall health in adulthood among those who were and werenot affected by the market entry of fluoxetine, a new drug for mental disorders. The em-pirical strategy compares outcomes for subjects with an without access in their childhood. Difference-in-differences estimates show that access to treatment improved the labour forceparticipation rate significantly and thus reduced the negative impact mental disorders haveon labour market outcomes.
