Abstract
Due to the civil war in Yemen, a Saudi-led operation was established on 26 March 2015 in Yemeni territory. The intervention, called "Operation Decisive Storm," was legitimized by the UN as a military intervention at the request of Yemeni President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi. This thesis aims to examine the grounds on which Operation Decisive Storm has justified and the underlying factors that could form the basis for the Saudi-led coalition's legitimization of the operation in Yemen. Based on the security and solidarity theory, with focus on Intervention by Invitation, Vedung's descriptive analysis of ideas shows that the intervention was justified mainly based on three arguments. That 1) president Hadi had asked for help, 2) the conflict... (More)

That 1) president Hadi had asked for help, 2) the conflict threatened regional and international security and peace, and 3) the coalition felt obliged to protect the Yemeni people and their government. The essay also shows, based on realism, that the countries had other or additional intentions to intervene in Yemen. With Vedung's descriptive and functional analysis of ideas, the coalition has proven to have moderated based on the state's self-interest. The intervention interprets as having been carried out because the countries were interested in strengthening their position of power in the international community. (Less)
