Abstract
Intimate partner violence against women is a prominent problem within today’s society and during recent years it has gained a larger matter on the political platform. Intimate partner violence against women is a prominent problem within today’s society and during recent years it has gained a larger matter on the political platform. During the current Covid-19 pandemic there has been an increase in intimate partner violence against women. Since the restrictions of staying home and practicing social distancing were established during the beginning of 2020, the Swedish women shelters and helplines reported an increased workload and a living situation that changed for the worse for women living with intimate partner violence. This study aims to examine the experiences of professionals working at women's help organisations and their view on intimate partner violence against women during the Covid-19 pandemic and how the living situation of abused women has been affected during this period. The study has been conducted through digital semi-structured interviews with eight professionals within women’s help organisations. The results of the study indicate that the violence against women during the Covid-19 pandemic has escalated, the psychological violence in particular, due to the increased time spent at home with the perpatrator and the limited opportunies to seek help and support. Furthermore the study has shown how the victims of intimate partner violence have used different coping-strategies to manage their situations and that the possibilities to provide help from professionals has been affected negatively by the Covid-19 pandemic.
