Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine experiences of the development of digitalization from a user perspective where the users are sober addicts. Six different interviews with members from a non profit organization (NPO) in Malmö, who also are or have been social service clients, have been conducted. The empirical data from the interviews have been analyzed from the theoretical perspectives of social acceleration and power and later on from chosen parts of previous research. The result shows that digitalization both can increase and decrease a sense of exclusion. The risk of being in a digital exclusion increases for those who aren’t interested in digital means, but the NPO helps with both a sense of digital inclusion and a sense of... (More)
The purpose of this study was to examine experiences of the development of digitalization from a user perspective where the users are sober addicts. The empirical data from the interviews have been analyzed from the theoretical perspectives of social acceleration and power and later on from chosen parts of previous research. The result shows that digitalization both can increase and decrease a sense of exclusion. The risk of being in a digital exclusion increases for those who aren’t interested in digital means, but the NPO helps with both a sense of digital inclusion and a sense of community according to the informants. All believe that the task should belong to the society to include everyone in the ongoing digital process, but at the same time several of the informants have a low interest in the actual use of digital means. The informants express the positive effects of digitalization which e.g is saving time when they can have a digital meeting instead of a physical one. Everyone also agrees that digitalization is the future, but at the same time, there is a need for access to meeting spots that can provide community and support regarding issues concerning digitalization.
