Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine how school counsellors perceived their role within the schools various work against bullying and which impact their work environment had on their role. Because the study aimed to study the school counsellor's role, a role theory was used to analyse the empirical material. This was a qualitative study done through five semistructured interviews with school counsellors from two big municipalities in Skåne. The study found that all school counsellors perceived their role as multifaceted as they worked with individuals, groups and on an organisational level. The aim of this study was to examine how school counsellors perceived their role within the schools various work against bullying and which impact their work environment had on their role. Because the study aimed to study the school counsellor's role, a role theory was used to analyse the empirical material. This was a qualitative study done through five semistructured interviews with school counsellors from two big municipalities in Skåne. The study found that all school counsellors perceived their role as multifaceted as they worked with individuals, groups and on an organisational level. Their role was different depending on if they worked with students, teachers or in the student health team. The school counsellors also acknowledged that they were responsible for a huge number of students, that in combination with a lack of time had a big impact on how involved they could be in the different forms of anti-bullying work within the different levels. In conclusion working as a school counsellor did not mean that they only had one role but several as the extent of their work resulted in a role-set of different roles, based on where they were working and how much time they had.
