- Abstract
- The Swedish foreign policy is based on values such as peace, human rights and democracy. Along with these values, Sweden has been exporting weapons to the Saudi-led coalition who is a part of the war in Yemen. The purpose of this study is to investigate how Sweden’s arms export to warring countries in Yemen should be conducted based on the legal framework, the guidelines and the commitments in the foreign declarations regarding human rights. The theoretical framework builds on Rawls ideal and non-ideal theory and Christensen's ideas on moral limits in the international arms trade. Through a normative analysis, I try to point out how Sweden should act based on already formulated values such as the right to life. Conclusively, according to the regulatory framework, the guidelines and the commitments regarding human rights, Sweden should refrain from exporting weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
