- Abstract
- In connection to the Covid-19 pandemic, the global economy suffered significant damage regarding supply chains and the flow of free, open markets. In the aftermath of these struggles, both researchers and the public are debating a potential shift towards moving production sites closer to the market. This development, in combination with the ongoing establishment of larger production sites in Norrland, has sparked new interest in industrial production in Sweden today. This paper examines the preconditions of establishing such larger industrial production sites in Skåne by comparing two sub-regions in the southwest and northeast of the region. The research is conducted by examining both physical predispositions, the structure of the local... (More)

The research is conducted by examining both physical predispositions, the structure of the local labour market, and a short survey on the perspective of public officials working with urban planning for the different municipalities. By analysing the results with traditional localisation theories, the aim is to find an explanation to differences and similarities. The research concludes that Skåne as a whole has many of the right preconditions for an industrial production site in place, but that they are spread out over space. MalmöLundregionen has a strong labour market and good infrastructure, while Skåne Nordost has accessible land and a strong industrial history. In order for Skåne to compete with other regions in northern Europe, it needs to be able to better profit from these unique aspects of the different parts of the region. (Less)
