- The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how the elderly and disabled are included and excluded by the municipality of Malmö in three different published planning documents. To investigate this purpose, the main question asked is: how are elderly and disabled people described and included in/excluded from the City of Malmö's master plan, the in-depth master plan for Nyhamnen and the Detailed Plan for Smörkajen (5611)? The theoretical framework used is based upon three perspectives ableism, ageism and accessibility and the method used is qualitive content analysis.

In general, there is a positive perspective on ageism and ableism, where the municipality shows understanding that the groups have specific needs and there is a willingness to support them through planning measures. Despite this, assumptions about obligatory normal function and youthfulness are seen on several occasions. These two concepts are detected above all by the large absence of the elderly and disabled in the source material. (Less)
