- Abstract (Swedish)
- This study looks at how Riksbyggen, one of the biggest residential developers in Sweden, believes that social sustainability is created with architectural aspects within a dwelling.
Theory and earlier research within the field of social sustainability and architecture is used to evaluate Riksbyggen’s beliefs. A qualitative content analysis is made to examine the chosen

texts from Riksbyggen’s web pages. The results show that Riksbyggen believes that social sustainability within a dwelling is created through four themes. The first is tools, that
certificates, structures and projects create a framework for social sustainability to be created consistently over time in production of residential dwellings. The qualities of the dwelling are stated to add to the social sustainability within the dwelling by assuring good light, isolation and accessibility conditions, for the impaired as well. Affordable prices are also said to add to the social sustainability of the dwelling, and space efficient dwellings are thus built to lower the prices. There is also an act of care towards residents and members of Riksbyggen, to
make sure that their needs are fulfilled and that they are happily living in Riskbyggen’s dwellings. The act of care is achieved through continuous dialogue. The architectural aspects
of the dwelling are said to add to the social sustainability with adaptable floor plan layouts and room sizes. The immeasurable values of the dwelling are considered to make sure the
dwelling is satisfactory for the inhabitant. However architectural aspects are not heavily mentioned in the texts from Riksbyggen, though they do have their tool Positive Footprint
Housing as a road map for architects and planners alike. In conclusion, the study highlights the need of future research on how surface efficient dwellings can be socially sustainable, as
well as how pure architectural aspects and the floor plan can bring better social sustainability within the dwelling. (Less)
