Abstract
This thesis aims to investigate certain components of neighborhoods and how they impact the residents’ level of attachment to the area in which they live. How individuals perceive building aesthetics, green areas and sociability in their neighborhood was examined using an established survey, namely the Perceived Residential Environment Quality survey. An additional set of questions covering neighborhood attachment was included at the end of the survey. 198 respondents from various cities and types of neighborhoods in Sweden completed the survey. Using multiple linear regression analysis, we could conclude that building aesthetics, green areas and sociability could indeed predict neighborhood attachment in a positive direction. This means... This means that the better the score the respondents gave their neighborhoods in all these categories, the more attached they generally were to it. Understanding what makes people keen to stay in, or keen to leave a neighborhood is of great relevance not only to designers and builders of new living areas, housing associations and landlords, but to the people looking for homes as well. Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
