When we combined the analysis of our themes, previous research and our theories we found that the media present perpetrators differently depending on the sex of the perpetrator. The male perpetrators were mostly presented as the dangerous perpetrator and a criminal on his own, while the female perpetrators and their crimes were minimized and described in relation to the other. This led us to the conclusion that the media's presentation produces and reproduces existing gender norms, which can affect the readers views and opinions. (Less)
