The conclusion of the study is that adhd-diagnosed parents experience both opportunities and obstacles in their parenthood due to the diagnosis. The most significant positive effect is the increased understanding and affection a shared diagnosis with a child can cause. Negative effects are related to difficulties obtaining structure, tiredness and low energy as well as experiencing ignorance from the environment. Other findings are that parents tend to self-stigmatize themselves when they are reflected in others, and that self acceptance and openness about the diagnosis increases understanding and humility from the surroundings.
