Abstract
Our study was conducted to investigate how well people can identify other people's emotions from scenarios where no visual cues, nor too much background information was given. This was to simulate the conceptual context we are given in everyday life where much information is not present yet we make inferences about what other people's emotions might be. We constructed a survey with 24 fictitious short scenarios based on certain appraisal dimensions chosen from the Appraisal theory to represent a specific primary emotion. We further
investigated the connection between how well people performed and how much psychology studies they have completed, as well as how well they believed they performed. The results indicated that people perform... (More)

investigated the connection between how well people performed and how much psychology studies they have completed, as well as how well they believed they performed. The results indicated that people perform very well on identifying certain emotions more than others (happiness, anger and no emotion). Correlations between the ability to identify emotions and the confidence in identifying emotions were not significant. The results also indicated that the level of psychology studies did not predict confidence in identifying others' emotions.
Significant results showed that people who have completed more psychology studies performed better at identifying emotions, however future studies should be done to investigate the causal factors. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

orsaksfaktorerna. (Less)
