En rättssociologisk studie om sugardating och unga som säljer sex
(2022) RÄSK02 20221Department of Sociology of Law
- Abstract
- The aim of this paper is to examine sugardating and youth selling sex in a digital context in Sweden. To achieve this, a study was carried out based on qualitative semi-structured interviews. These were conducted with actors from authorities and organisations who, in their profession, face these issues, concerning their view on affiliated social- and legal norms. The collected data was coded thematically to analyse patterns in the experiences of the participants. In addition, a potential link between social- and legal norms regarding sugardating and youth selling sex was investigated based on previous findings and the empirical material. The result is analysed and discussed with Foucault's definitions of power along with the norm model.

This study indicates that sugardating and youth selling sex are characterised by grey areas. Hence, the phenomena are difficult to regulate and it can be challenging to differentiate associated social- and legal norms. The empirical part of the study and previous findings imply a normalisation and glorification, partly due to the digitalisation of society. The collected data also concludes that the law regarding youth selling sex is viewed as legitimate but inadequate. Additionally, a conclusion that can be drawn from the study is that these relations are characterised by an imbalance of power, for instance as a result of age gaps. In sum, this study argues that sugardating and youth selling sex are complex issue areas, difficult to both equate and separate. (Less)
