- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
- Abstract
- A rise in sea level and temporarily elevated sea level changes such as in situations like storm surges, can often lead to complications like flooding, erosion, and geomorphological changes of the nearby landscape. The mean sea level is steadily increasing due to the impact of global warming. At the same time metrological event such as storms and storm surges seem to occur more frequently. In this research the coastline of Morup, Halland have been studied. The change of the coast’s morphology and shape have been studied to dictate changes overtime. The impact of storm surges in the area have been analyzed to locate areas that can be affected by the storm surge. The research method is conducted through literature studies. Analyses with map... The impact of storm surges in the area have been analyzed to locate areas that can be affected by the storm surge. The research method is conducted through literature studies. Analyses with map data and simulations is conducted with ArcGIS pro, a program with capabilities in Geographic information system (GIS). Through the conducted research the results indicates that storm surges and sea level rises is highly dependent on the areas local geographic place- ment. In Morup, Halland there were indications of changes of the coastline overtime. These changes since 1960 seems to progress since the impact of sea level changes and storm surges further amplifies these processes. The coastline is a dynamic zone where environmental changes and challenges occur on daily bases. Simulations of storm surges near coastlines can give indications on the coastal vulnerability in the area. This is an important topic since storm surges in the future is expected to cause more damage on properties and infrastructures due to the in- crease of mean sea level. (Less)
