- Abstract
- What does the relationship between the artistic research and the university library
look like? Artistic research has been a practice in Sweden for several decades, but
it was first in 2010 that the artistic research was given its own form of third-cycle
education. In this study artistic research is intended to be understood as the research
within the artistic practice. Therefore, the research does not have the requirements
to be expressed in a text-based form, but rather in the artform that is practiced. For
example, the research could be communicated in dance, opera, theater or painting.

But how does one publish artistic research if it is presented as a choreography? And
what kind of information resources does an artistic researcher need for their work?
The aim of this master’s thesis is to create a broader understanding and higher
knowledge about the relationship between the artistic research and the university
library. To do so material has been gathered through five semi-structed interviews.
To understand the results of the interviews, new institutionalism has been used as a
theoretical frame, with focus on the concepts legitimacy and isomorphism. To
understand the position of the artistic research it has been seen as a cooperating
institution together with academia and the university library throughout the thesis.
The conclusions involve what kind of resources the university library offers the
artistic researcher and how they correlate with their own expressed needs, as well
as a discussion about whatever the artistic research needs the university library or
not. (Less)
