The purpose is to understand the contribution of inequality to rural poverty alleviation, utilising the latest data available. The findings of this paper reveal that ethnic minority groups are left behind in many areas beyond economics and highlighted the effect of inequality of opportunities on trapping people in a vicious cycle of poverty and marginalisation. The persistence of subgroup disparities in poverty may be detrimental to achieving inclusive growth
