This thesis aims to investigate how Roma CSOs in Serbia work with reproductive empowerment of Roma women and girls. To understand their approaches, intersectionality, and empowerment theory help unpack the challenges Roma women face in making reproductive choices. Such a description provides an analysis of why they are facing them. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with Roma CSO and a document analysis of SRH workshop material for Roma women and girls. It was found that the challenges Roma women and girls face in making reproductive choices are based on lack of resources, agency, and critical consciousness. Intersecting factors based on external racial discrimination, class, and gender inequalities shapes Roma women's challenges in enhancing resources, decision-making, and engaging in critical consciousness. Approaches of Roma CSOs derived from such a standpoint, using strategies for working with the challenges from a multi- and intersectional perspective, escaping condemning their own culture. (Less)
