- Abstract
- It is a common experience among children to witness domestic violence, but how much does it affect the child later on in life? The purpose of this paper is to present what happens to the child mentally and physically when domestic violence against women results in the death of a mother and the imprisonment of a father. The paper also presents ways to minimize the impact the event has on the child. This paper is based on a qualitative research method, text analysis, using media to find published research papers and articles related to where the child goes after the mother dies and how to minimize the impact the event has on the child. - It is a common experience among children to witness domestic violence, but how much does it affect the child later on in life? The purpose of this paper is to present what happens to the child mentally and physically when domestic violence against women results in the death of a mother and the imprisonment of a father. The paper also presents ways to minimize the impact the event has on the child. This paper is based on a qualitative research method, text analysis, using media to find published research papers and articles related to where the child goes after the mother dies and how to minimize the impact the event has on the child. Then analyze those findings in relation to the book I händelse av min död (Translation: In case of my death). Through the research and analysis the findings were similar. It was found that there aren't any official manuals on how to help the child or where the child should go when the parents aren’t capable of caring for the child. Furthermore, the findings suggest that the child experiences different amounts of mental problems based on the way social services and other social work personnel handle the child in the moments after the event.
