China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Bangladesh
(2023) STVA22 20222Department of Political Science
- Abstract
- This essay intends to examine the relationship between China and Bangladesh, specifically focusing on the effects of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative on the textile industry in Bangladesh. Our research has found a relationship between the two countries where Bangladesh has gained economical support from China through the Belt and Road Initiative but also through other means, such as Foreign Direct Investments and trade agreements. This has caused Bangladesh’s textile industry to be dependent on China’s involvement, resulting in an exploited industry and a country at risk of being indebted to China. Our results give an insight to the bilateral relationship through theoretical perspectives.
