Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The following study investigated how the different personality psychology concepts; conscientiousness, self-efficacy and grit correlate with each other. The goal of the study was to explore if there is any common overlap between the measurements of these three concepts, as the concepts have very similar definitions. The survey consisted of a questionnaire that included three measuring instruments; Big Five Personality Inventory, Swedish Grit Scale and General Self-Efficacy Scale. The survey was completed by 103 participants. The result showed the strongest disattenuated correlation between conscientiousness and grit (r = .92), followed by the correlation between grit and self-efficacy (r = .42) and between conscientiousness and... The survey consisted of a questionnaire that included three measuring instruments; Big Five Personality Inventory, Swedish Grit Scale and General Self-Efficacy Scale. The survey was completed by 103 participants. The result showed the strongest disattenuated correlation between conscientiousness and grit (r = .92), followed by the correlation between grit and self-efficacy (r = .42) and between conscientiousness and self-efficacy (r = .39). A principal component analysis showed a common variance of 65.8% between the concepts. According to the authors' definition of redundancy (r = <.50), conscientiousness and grit were judged to be redundant. That is, the concepts measure the same construct to such a large degree that only one of them should be retained. The remaining two correlations were judged to be strong, but not strong enough to be redundant. The conclusion is that the usage of the newer concept grit is less relevant than the usage of the older concept conscientiousness. (Less)
