Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze how discourses around the stigmatization of sex work are expressed by examining how people that post on internet forums discuss and reason about female creators on OnlyFans. The method that was used is a qualitative ethnography where we investigated how people on the online forums of Flashback and Reddit published and presented their opinions about females. We have used two different discussion threads, one from each website. A discourse analysis was used to understand how different ways of talking about these women can create a stigma about their social status. The results have been analyzed by using two more theoretical perspectives: Erving Goffman's theory about stigma and the radical feminist theory.... (More)

A discourse analysis was used to understand how different ways of talking about these women can create a stigma about their social status. The results have been analyzed by using two more theoretical perspectives: Erving Goffman's theory about stigma and the radical feminist theory. The results show that people categorized these women with negative associations both from their appearance, and physical stigma, but also for their personality, and psychological stigma. Examples of this stigma are the following: that the female creators have lower intelligence than an “ordinary” woman, that they have an abnormal need for confirmation, and that they are “lesser” women because of their occupation. It was also found that people were fine with having sexual relations with the creators, but they would never start a family with them. The reason for this is that people had a hard time believing these women to be good mothers and role models. Finally, some people do not have an opinion on the female creator and think that she can do whatever she wants to. (Less)
