- Abstract (Swedish)
- Violence in archaeological context is a subject that has relatively recently been brought to light. Before the start of the 21st century it was uncommon to see articles on the subject. However, since the study of violence took off, it has developed to show many different sides to violence in a population. In recent years it has become common to question the material in new ways. When presented with trauma one is not to automatically assume that it was caused by violence. In this essay the osteological material from the Middle Age convent S:t Nicolai in Helsingborg was analyzed for skull trauma in adults and using a life course perspective interprets how events and factors in a person’s life can increase or decrease the likelihood of them... In this essay the osteological material from the Middle Age convent S:t Nicolai in Helsingborg was analyzed for skull trauma in adults and using a life course perspective interprets how events and factors in a person’s life can increase or decrease the likelihood of them being faced with physical trauma. The study focuses on material from the High Middle Age and found that the frequency of trauma during this period as there was low compared to material from the other periods from the same convent. It was also necessary to compare the placement of all the cranial injuries as they didn’t necessarily occur in typical places. Helsingborg during the high Middle Ages was a place in in development and the lack of injuries in the material somewhat reflects that this may have been a calmer period of Helsingborg’s history.
