- Enligt WHO är mäns våld mot kvinnor i nära relationer ett av de allvarligaste hoten mot kvinnors hälsa. Medan det finns många aspekter att ha i åtanke i analysen av detta, kvarstår faktumet att det är i hemmet som våldet sker. Varför är det så? Många arkitekter och teoretiker har länge konstaterat hur våra städer är byggda olika väl för olika typer av kroppar, där möjligtvis vissa kroppar stöttas bättre än andra. Det här arbetet utforskar utformandet av hemmet. Den kvinnliga kroppen verkar inte vara lika väl stöttad i hemmet, så som den manliga kroppen är. Det är snarare den farligaste platsen för kvinnor att vara på.

I ett sökande efter tryggare och bättre bostäder för kvinnor, utforskar jag först ifall hemmets utformning kan fungera problematiskt för den kvinnliga kroppen? Har uppbyggnaden av våra hem någon faktisk roll i våldet som utövas? Maktförhållanden och vårt upplevda behov av privathet har påverkat hur ett antal problematiska scenarion i våra hem blivit gestaltade sedan länge. I ljuset av dessa scenarion, undersöker jag hur de också kan bli gestaltade annorlunda. I en handbok presenteras totalt femton olika förslag på hur vi kan planera för tryggare och bättre bostäder. Whilst there are more things to consider, truth is that the home is where all of this violent behaviour takes the stage. Why is that? Many architects and theorists have long made out that our cities are differently well-built for different kinds of bodies, where some are possibly better supported than others. This thesis is set to research the impact of the home instead. The female body appears to be less supported in the home than the male body is, in regards to how it today is the most dangerous place for a woman to be at.
In an attempt of finding safer and better housing for women, I start my thesis by exploring possible flaws with the... Whilst there are more things to consider, truth is that the home is where all of this violent behaviour takes the stage. Why is that? Many architects and theorists have long made out that our cities are differently well-built for different kinds of bodies, where some are possibly better supported than others. This thesis is set to research the impact of the home instead. The female body appears to be less supported in the home than the male body is, in regards to how it today is the most dangerous place for a woman to be at.
In an attempt of finding safer and better housing for women, I start my thesis by exploring possible flaws with the shape of the home, as it is built today. Does the way we construct our housing play an actual part in the violence that takes place within? Power dynamics and our need for private spaces have long affected how a number of problematic scenarios have been constructed. In the light of these, I explore how to possibly design these scenarios differently. With a guide book, I present a total of fifteen different ways of designing for safer and better housing. (Less)
