Abstract
Entrepreneurship education has grown rapidly and there is a steady increase in entrepreneurship courses and programs worldwide. For the past decade, research topics in entrepreneurship education have mainly been related to the entrepreneurial intentions, actions, and learning process of students. However, not much research related to entrepreneurship educators has been conducted. Specifically, there is limited knowledge of educators' pedagogical challenges in entrepreneurship education and the ways they overcome those challenges. The role of entrepreneurship educators is important as their pedagogical approaches and mindset influence the learning environment they create for their students directly. This may support or hinder the development of students' attitudes and knowledge about entrepreneurship. This thesis aims to explore the pedagogical challenges that educators face in entrepreneurship education and understand how they overcome those challenges. This is qualitative research with an inductive approach. Empirical data is collected through semi-structured interviews with 12 entrepreneurship educators from different universities in Sweden. Our findings show that entrepreneurship educators face challenges because students are diverse and there is a lack of resources and support. It is also challenging for them to ensure the quality of entrepreneurship education with a suitable pedagogical approach. To overcome these challenges, entrepreneurship educators make improvements constantly with a high level of self-efficacy and an entrepreneurial mindset. They practise what they preach and solve problems as intrapreneurs at their universities. As a result, this thesis shows the pedagogical challenges in entrepreneurship education so that universities understand how best they could support entrepreneurship educators in the future. Furthermore, it also hopes to inspire other entrepreneurship educators with possible means to overcome pedagogical challenges they may face in their deployment of entrepreneurship education. (Less)
