- Abstract
- This thesis explores the prerequisites for collaborations between different groups within the climate justice movement in Sweden. The literature gives a clear indication of the importance of using a broad range of tactics to be successful and effective in a social movement, which leads to the relevance of looking at groups using different tactics and their approach towards collaborations in general. While a broad agreement seems to be established in the literature in regard to the usefulness of using different tactics, there is more to be discovered about how the conditions for such collaborations to happen can be improved, a discussion this thesis aim to contribute to. The study uses the qualitative method of interviews to get insights from people active in different groups in the movement. Through thematic analysis, patterns are presented. The key findings from the informers are an in general positive attitude towards collaborations and agreeing on the need for a broad use of tactics, while still seeing issues in being associated with other groups. Important hindrances for collaborations are identified as being lack of understanding between groups; lack of time and energy; and ideological differences. The discussion following the results suggests ways of improving the conditions for collaboration, where several aspects of strengthening understanding are emphasized. While this thesis cannot make a claim to cover all aspects of collaboration in social movements, it gives suggestions of further research to give a fuller understanding of collaborations in this context.
