Our results showed that the reports of concern are linked to feelings of powerlessness and social stigma. Parents experience feelings such as anxiety and concern, they also feel anger towards the informant. The parents accuse the informant of lying and claim that the accusation is false. Forum users also wrote that the feelings caused by the report of concern were lasting, some wrote that it had been several years since they last had contact with social services but they still feel anxious. Reports of concern are discussed as something helpful and good, but also as threatening and destructive. In the discussions about the reports of concern most of the focus ended up on the informant and on whether too many or too few reports of concern are filed to child protective services. The most common perception about social services was that they are an authority that abuses their power and that they do more harm than good. The other, not so common, perception we distinguished was of social services as a helping authority. (Less)
