Research question: How do working hours, work satisfaction, and stress influence the worklife balance of entrepreneurs in the start-up phase, what coping mechanisms do they employ and how, to maintain or improve this balance?
Purpose: This paper aims to investigate which strategies entrepreneurs use, and how, to improve or maintain their work-life balance as well as discover their understanding of worklife balance.
Methodology: The study was conducted qualitatively, with six semi-structured interviews carried out through Zoom.
Theoretical Perspective: Commonly used factors from earlier literature that impact work-life balance were examined. These factors are the following; working hours, work satisfaction, and stress, which are embedded in questions asked of the interview persons.
Result: The results indicated that the satisfaction with the entrepreneurs' choice of occupation was very high; however, the work-life balance differed significantly among the interviewed persons. Many working hours correlated to compulsive thoughts about work, where the interviewed persons could not unwind and disconnect from work.
Conclusion: Entrepreneurs who did not maintain a distinct boundary between work and leisure time tended to work more, negatively impacting their work-life balance. An interesting relationship discovered was that the interviewed entrepreneurs refrained from using their, explained by themself as working strategies, to achieve a better work-life balance when the workload was heavy.
