- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less) - Abstract

The essay relies on the iconographic-iconologic method of art historian Erwin Panofsky and a theoretic framework based in Swedish historian Andres Brink Pintos reading of Judith Butler’s theories of gender performance. The essay concludes that the reproductions of masculinity in the murals rely upon a distinct iconography of the Swedish working-class movement. An iconography studied by among others art historians Margareta Ståhl and Fred Andersson. The norms conveyed are related to the idea of well-behaved worker (sve: den skötsamma arbetaren) spearheaded by Swedish historian Ronny Ambjörnsson.
