- Abstract
- This study examines the discourses surrounding Schiaparelli's faux fur collection that sparked strong reactions on Instagram. We analyze how the discourse about the faux fur silhouettes was expressed and created on Instagram, and what the strongest reactions on Instagram were around the faux fur collection. We have also investigated the role of celebrities in the discourse and whether they have had an impact on the criticism. The results show that the faux fur collection has had a major impact on Schiaparelli's image on Instagram and that celebrities have played a crucial role in spreading it.

To understand the thoughts that are highlighted in discourses, such as on Instagram, and the underlying reasons, we have carried out a qualitative analysis using the netnographic method, discourse analysis and an analysis schedule. We use a purpose selection process for screenshots, which is a strategy appropriate in research methodology. The results show that even though there is faux fur in the collection, it cannot be worn from an ethical point of view if you consider most of the comments on Instagram that deal with animal rights. We hope that our work can contribute to exploring several aspects of Schiaparelli's collection and the ethical debate surrounding faux fur. (Less)
