Abstract
The report deals with the development of a lab environment in ABB's 800xA. The lab
environment aims to streamline the testing of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and thus streamline the start-up and implementation of industrial-scale process systems.
The concept of the lab environment is to provide the opportunity to quickly set up a system in 800xA that can be used for testing, process development and competence development.
The lab environment provides the basis of the system in the form of ready-made servers with 800xA installed and libraries that are generally applicable to a wide range of DCS. The lab environment also offers the possibility to test batch systems as the platform is supplemented with batch servers.

The report deals with the development of a lab environment in ABB's 800xA. The lab
environment aims to streamline the testing of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and thus streamline the start-up and implementation of industrial-scale process systems.
The concept of the lab environment is to provide the opportunity to quickly set up a system in 800xA that can be used for testing, process development and competence development.
The lab environment provides the basis of the system in the form of ready-made servers with 800xA installed and libraries that are generally applicable to a wide range of DCS. The lab environment also offers the possibility to test batch systems as the platform is supplemented with batch servers.
To validate the lab environment after installation of 800xA, a demo system has been
developed in the lab environment. The demo system is built with scalability in mind to increase the value of the work. Scalability means that the system can represent an industrialscale DCS when testing the lab environment as well as a small-scale exhibition system to be used in the future at fairs or at presentations to attract stakeholders.
The thesis describes the configuration of a lab network, the setup of virtual machines and the installation of 800xA. In the lab environment, the demo system is then designed and implemented from scratch.
Finally, the results of the thesis are presented regarding project efficiency and the development of a multifunctional demo system. After installing an 800xA, it was concluded that the project process could be streamlined in terms of availability and time. The demo system could be completed and has met the versatility requirements of the thesis. The demo system could validate that the installation of 800xA worked and that a DCS programmed according to the ISA-88 standard could be simulated. (Less)

I examensarbetet beskrivs konfigurationen av ett labb-nätverk, uppsättningen av virtuella maskiner och installationen av 800xA. I labbmiljön designas och implementeras sedan demosystemet från grunden.
Slutligen presenteras vad examensarbetet resulterat i gällande projekteffektivisering samt utvecklingen av ett mångfunktionellt demosystem. Efter att ha installerat ett 800xA kunde slutsatsen dras att projektförloppet kunde effektiviseras med avseende på tillgänglighet och tid. Demosystemet kunde fullbordas och har levt upp till de krav i form av mångsidighet som examenarbetet avsett. Demosystemet kunde validera att installationen av 800xA fungerade och att ett DCS programmerat enligt ISA-88 standarden kunnat simuleras. (Less)
