- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to examine how housing quality has changed over a span of 50 years. The aim is also to investigate how sustainable development has evolved during the same period, with the intention of drawing conclusions regarding the changes in sustainable development within the construction sector. A quantitative method has been employed, involving the collection of numerical data as well as information gathered from literature
reviews. Two residential buildings in Sweden have been analyzed and compared to acquire the evidence necessary for this study. One residence is situated in Österäng, Kristianstad and was constructed during the so-called "Million Program" in 1973, while the other is located in Viva, Gothenburg and was built in 2019. By examining similarities and differences in floor plans, natural light ingress, building materials, energy usage and heating systems, a conclusion was reached. The conclusion suggests that at first glance, there appears to be significant differences in the quality of these two residences. However, upon deeper analysis,
it was observed that there were not substantial disparities in the quality of the buildings. This implies that there has not been a considerable development in the environmental impact of the construction sector over the past 50 years, despite the introduction of numerous new laws, regulations, and guidelines during this period.
