It is in the light of these events and developments that the purpose of this study is to investigate potential securitizations of said Quran-burnings and the potential prohibition of them by domestic politicians. This is done using a theoretic framework consisting of the Copenhagen School of Security Studies together with discourse theory. This is then combined with a mixed method analysis applied to parliament debates during the calendar year of 2023. Three opinion polls were then used to evaluate the success of potential securitization attempts. The conclusions of the study suggest an attempted securitization by the Social Democrats, however the results of analysis on their discourse seem to lack significant indicators needed to classify said attempts as successful. The discourse of the Sweden Democrats simultaneously shows signs indicating an attempted desecuritization while discourse by the Moderates show neither any attempted securitizations nor desecuritizations.
