- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- Studies show that people within the LGBTQI-community have poorer mental health compared to the general population and that there is a close connection between individuals’ well-being, health, and work. The purpose of this study was to highlight the experiences and knowledge possessed by HR personnel regarding the promotion of LGBTQI-people’s mental health in workplaces in Sweden. Based on this, the study is centered around the following research question: How do HR personnel describe their experiences of working to support LGBTQI-people in workplaces? In this qualitative study eight HR employees participated in semi-structured interviews. The interviews were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis, resulting in two main themes: The... (More)

The interviews were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis, resulting in two main themes: The workplace: Promoting or inhibiting HR personnels’ work with LGBTQI issues? and Who is responsible for LBGTQI issues: HR, the managers or the employees themselves? The findings indicate that HR personnel’s work include a wide range of general measures to promote a good psychosocial work environment, but that they rarely direct these measures specifically towards the work environment of LGBTQI- people. Based on the results of the study, we conclude that the breadth of HR personnels’ responsibilities, the unpredictability of the workday arrangements, and lack of time for HR personnel, make the promotion of LGBTQI-people’s health in the workplace more difficult. The distribution of responsibilities linked to work with these issues should reasonably be based on different levels, from the level of individual employees up to management, managerial and organizational level.
