- Abstract
- The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate what impact adult children describe as a result of their parents’ alcohol abuse while growing up and what coping strategies the children use to deal with the impact of their parent's alcohol abuse. To get the answers to the study we used eight biographies to base the empirical data on which the theory of coping was used to analyze the material. The study shows that children are negatively affected in several ways by living a stressful and conflict-filled everyday life in which they have to take adult responsibility and keep their situation a secret.
