- Abstract
- This study aimed to examine the presence of self-medication and in Swedish autobiographies, the understanding of the self-medication process. A narrated qualitative research method, with a content analysis of the autobiographies, was used to investigate the authors' descriptions of their drug and/or alcohol addiction and life story. The self-medication hypothesis and the learning model were applied for the analysis. The result of the study shows that the reason for drug or alcohol use can according to the life stories narrated in the autobiographies be more than to get high or have fun. In conclusion, the reasons for drug or alcohol use can be to change a bad feeling. The reason can be to forget, alleviate, or deal with the bad feeling or... (More)
