Research question: “How do managers view trust and control in managerial work while working remotely?” and “ How can the adjustments that managers make while working remotely be understood?”
Purpose of study: The aim of this study is to contribute to a deeper understanding for the relation between trust and control within a trust-based leadership. This is done by analyzing managers' experiences of trust and control when working remotely.
Methodology: A qualitative method with semi-structured interview. A social constructionist perspective has also been adopted with an abductive approach.
Theoretical perspectives: The study is based on theories on control which are applied to the theoretical framework of trust-based leadership. This takes place within the context of remote work.
Result: The results indicate contradictions between managers' views on a good leadership and what is necessary during remote work. Simultaneously, the managers emphasize the importance of trust while also implying the need for a changed form of control, which creates a balancing act for the managers when working remotely.
Conclusions: Problems with navigating between types of control and the degree of control and trust in a trust-based leadership create a balancing act for managers while working remotely. (Less)

Metod: För att uppfylla studiens syfte och besvara forskningsfrågorna har en kvalitativ metod baserat på semistrukturerade intervjuer genomförts. För studien har också en socialkonstruktionistisk utgångspunkt tagits med en abduktiv ansats.
Teoretiska perspektiv: Studien utgår från teorier om kontroll vilka appliceras inom teoretiska ramverk för tillitsbaserat ledarskap. Detta görs inom kontexten för distansarbete.
Resultat: Resultatet visar på motsättningar mellan chefers syn på ett bra ledarskap och vad som krävs vid distansarbete, avseende kontroll. Samtidigt som cheferna framhåller vikten av tillit finns ett behov av förändrad kontroll, vilket skapar en balansgång för cheferna när arbetet sker på distans.
Slutsats: Svårigheter att navigera mellan kontrollformer samt grad av kontroll och tillit i ett tillitsbaserat ledarskap skapar en balansgång för chefer när arbetet sker på distans. (Less)
