- Abstract
- Research question: How are metaphors used in Börspodden and how are they expressing biases?
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to analyze the metaphoric depiction of biases in podcast within the category of business. This objective is achieved through a discourse analysis to identify the underlying biases that can be interpreted from the use of metaphors.
Methodology: The purpose of the study has been achieved by transcribing the, at the beginning of the essay, three latest episodes of Börspodden. After that, a thematising of the metaphors was made by categorizing them as either indications of something positive or negative and then placing them either as a metaphor about companies/institutions or people.

Theoretical perspectives: The most prominent theoretical perspective in this study is discourse analysis with a focus on metaphors. To strengthen the analysis, the theories of metaphors and biases have also been applied.
Result: The result showed several metaphors such as Börsdumpen, a freak and Darth Vader that indicated biases.
Conclusions: The conclusion of this study is that the metaphors in particular contained biases that had negative associations. It also emerged that biases about groups were common, while it was shown that knowledge sometimes confirmed what the metaphors about single companies or persons expressed. Thus, metaphors did not always express biases. (Less)
